ballenaThis spectacular expedition takes you into the Pacific waters of Drake Bay and Caño Island and gets you close to whales and dolphins. With a little luck, thrilling sightings of humpback whale mothers and their calves are possible especially in the whale watching season from December to March and July to November. Dolphins are common residents in this area so the possibility to encounter large pods of dolphins close to shore or offshore is within arm length and observing pods of more than 1000 Bottlenose, Spotted, Common or Spinner dolphins is a true dream.

Most likely you will have the opportunity to watch a new Humpback whale mom teaching her whale baby to breach and also there is a big chance of you seeing several Humpback whales males compete for female whale attention.

 


The Sirena Station is the heart of Corcovado National Park. Occupying many of Costa Rica’s Southern Osa Peninsula this area represents the largest and most pristine primary forest remaining in Central America. You will not find a wilder and more remote place in the country. Will you have the opportunity to see scarlet macaws, poison dart frogs, all four of Costa Rica’s monkey species and perhaps even one of the few remaining jaguars left in the wild makes Corcovado; that is definitely worth every effort.

To reach this beautiful location you will have to take a 50 minute boat ride from Drake Bay. During this journey you will be seeing the beautiful coast line of the Osa Peninsula as well as observing the Ocean to not miss out on group of dolphins appearing or even a whale mother with her baby. As the Osa Peninsula is a famous area for spotting Whales almost all year around due to its warm waters you better watch out!

 

The Sirena Expedition gives you the opportunity to hike some of the Parks wildest terrain. In the most remote spots of each park you will have a good chance to see more exceptional wildlife. All four species to be found in Costa Rica will probably join you on this hike as well as lots of birds, agouties, peccaries, sloths or even big cats will make this experience very special.

If you are ambitious enough to travel as far as the Corcovado National Park take the opportunity to make it a Sirena daytrip or even extend it to an overnight tour to explore the richness of "the most biologically intense place on earth" quotes by the National Geographic Society.

 
 


If you are seeking real adventure you will have to choose the opportunity to stay overnight in one of the National Parks to see the nightlife of the Costa Rica Rain Forest, to get to know more about the area and get the chance to talk to Rangers and international Volunteers. This is a spectacular expedition you do not want to miss.

 
 


This expedition is offering you the biggest variety of the nature of the Osa Peninsula and in one day it is almost impossible to absorb all its beauty; is usually a challenge to find something so amazing!

Starting the day with a spectacular snorkeling trip around Caño Island you will get to see squirrels of colorful reef fish, white tip reef sharks, morays, rays and hopefully turtles that usually swim around in the clear sea. After this trip to one of Costa Ricas finest dive sites, the 30min boat ride will take you to the entrance of the Corcovado National Park - called San Pedrillo.

 

During this ride it is very likely to spot dolphins and even a whale mother with her baby. In the National Park a delicious picnic lunch will be waiting for you and you will have time to recharge your batteries and relax from the morning activity before you will be continuing your exiting day with hiking primary and secondary forests.

Watch out for monkeys, sloths, anteaters, peccaries or event tapirs and also big cats have been spotted in Corcovado many times, so maybe it is your lucky day! Should the animal life taking its time to appear that day you still have plenty of other activities to do just like swimming in a beautiful waterfall pool to refresh body and soul for the return trip.

 
 


A trip up the mountain to the base of Chirripo is very exiting. The scenery is spectacular including giant boulders studding steep hillside and rivers with crystal clear waters tumbling cold and pure. Mount Chirripo is the highest mountain in Costa Rica with 3819m. It is the centerpiece of the National Park Chirripo which joins the International Park La Amistad with the South, forming a huge protected area extending all the way to the Panamanian border.

 


 

The expedition will take you through original villages like Rivas, Chimirol or Canaan before arriving in San Gerardo de Rivas at the bottom of the mountain. From there you have a variety of choices just as climbing or hiking the mountains Chirripo or Uran; bird watching is also extremely spectacular around here and additionally visiting the local hot springs is a must do activity to achieve maximum relaxation from a long hiking day.

 
 

 

Paquare rafting

Costa Rica offers some of the world’s best whitewater rafting rivers. Paquare is wild, untamed and offers beautiful, largely unexplored and tropical wilderness with breathtaking canyons covered by dense forests. There are plenty of rafting and floating opportunities for everyone: classes III –IV are possible.
Whitewater fun and adrenaline peaks are guaranteed and if you are looking for the ultimate rafting adventure: no need to look any further!!

 

OSA Canopy

The canopy tour on the Osa Peninsula is a unique tour in an area with untouched primary jungle and spectacular wildlife views. You will have a fantastic view of the surrounding nature from the highest level of the rain forest and discover its rich diversity of wildlife.
You will probably spot animals like Scarlet Macaws, Spider and Howler Monkeys, Iguanas, Tapirs, Poison Dart frogs and lots of birds.

Safety first! On this tour you will be using a safety harness and modern roller systems and all newly built platforms are designed to assure your safety. With over 400m distance of one of the cables this Canopy Tour is one of the longest ziplines in Costa Rica.

 
 

 

Costa Rica is world famous for its coffee, its surfing opportunities and on top of it all for its astonishing diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty. The country is home to over 9000 species of flowering plants, over 600 species of butterflies, more than 200 different mammals as well as prehistoric looking reptiles, spheres and boldly colored amphibians.

If you are interested in photographing birds there are few better places on earth. With over 875 species Costa Rica is home to more avian species than Canada and the United States combined. Opportunities for landscape photography are equally diverse with mountains, beaches, active volcanoes, tropical forests, waterfalls and much more.

 
 

As a volunteer traveling through Costa Rica you will have the chance to mark a true difference. On your journey you will gain a close insight view into our work by visiting as many projects as you like and you have the chance to support our conservation activities or social programs with your individual contributions e.g. sharing some time.
